Eternity in the Moment
Collective exhibition, together with artist Berit Hals.
‘A butterfly gives its wings to a poppy as a memory’. This is how the Japanese poet Matsuo Basho (17th century) conveys the passage of time, eternity in the moment. It seems to us that this phrase summarises the meaning of our exhibition. Through various textile pieces we want to show its fleetingness, and the impossibility of catching it, of keeping it as a fixed image.
Time is a seed of the moment. In a society where everything happens faster and faster, where we are constantly bombarded with a huge amount of information, and where media pressures, especially on women, to stay forever young and freeze time are enormous, where we are invited to continuously live new experiences, we want to reflect on the beauty of being aware of each moment, of eternalising it with each experience, beyond time. We must enjoy each of the landscapes, situations and people we come across, aware of the fact that we cannot become attached to the moment we have already lived or think about the one to come.
The discovery of eternity in the moment elevates the subtle and turns it into something that is always extraordinary.
Life is a journey, full of paths, of moments that, like the threads of a fabric, make up a weave of extraordinary beauty. For us, textiles are something eternal, that captures time and transmits the memory of the peoples.
