Fairytale
2017
Nuno felting
With this piece, inspired by the world of fairy tales, I have tried to express that we should never lose the ability to believe that everything is possible: magic, dreams... Since I was small, magical worlds formed in my mind when my mother read fairy tales to us, or when she told us stories, and I would spend hours creating colourful ‘mini worlds’ where there were impossible houses, gardens and forests with blue trees, fairies and goblins… I believe that there are times when it would be good for us to be like children again.
The design depicts a forest of blue trees climbing up the sides, with purple leaves that meet at the centre of the front and back. Although these colours do not exist in nature, I have always liked to paint blue trees and flowers, precisely for this reason: they are unreal...
The nuno felt gives texture to the drawing, turning it into something more organic; the transparency of the silk muslin makes it an ethereal piece. Hanging from a tree branch, suspended from the ceiling, it moves and interacts with the space and with the observers when they approach. All of this helps to make it more than just a piece of clothing.
